There is love in this narrative, but in this case, as in too many others, the love object is fire itself — supporting the belief that some female firesetters are passionate paramours of flame. In his famous pop music recording, Robert Palmer told us that we might as well admit that we’re “Addicted to Love.” Significant numbers of women are addicted to fire. The combined power, heat, vibrancy, sight, sound, smell, taste and feel of fire is as thrilling as sexual intimacy. Suzette, another patient of the author, stated, “It’s like doing drugs. I feel high and spaced out... euphoric, I guess would be the word. After, I feel so good.”
